GeoSAR

Phoenix Air GeoSAR aircraft radar mapping system is a single pass dual frequency X-Band and P-Band interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar or IfSAR radar designed to map both above and below vegetation canopies. The system: mounted on a Gulfstream II aircraft, simultaneously collects dual sided X-band and P-band IfSAR mapping data.

The GeoSAR system is a dual-band interferometric synthetic aperture radar, or DbInSAR. DbInSAR comprises X-Band sensors which map first returns and P-Band sensors which penetrate all vegetation together providing imagery and digital surface models of above and below the canopy. DbInSAR is the perfect technology for all regions with triple canopy vegetation and land masses requiring airborne geodata capture in cloudy conditions. The captured data is processed while in the field, is compatible with all GIS systems, and integrates seamlessly with all other geo-data including LIDAR. Collection of the GeoSAR data can be executed day or night, in clear skies or clouds, and at an amazing rate of nearly 300 square kilometers per minute.

EORI – The GeoSAR data set Enhanced Ortho Rectified Imagery or EORI is a proprietary product and process utilizing specific image characteristics of IfSAR source images from both the X-Band and P-Band radars. The specific image characteristics are fused for the purposes of creating an enhanced image where, in essence, 1+1 does not equal a sum but a multiplier for accuracy, precision, clarity and utilization. Once the initial EORI dataset is created, the resulting product can then be further enhanced for clarity, interpretation, and precision by the introduction of other image sources (e.g. LIDAR, Photogrammetry, Satellite, etc.)

P-Band DEM

P-Band DEM

P-band derived digital elevation model. Details of terrain below the dense canopy are visible. This allows for interpretations of faults, fractures, and slope.

X & P-Band EORI

X & P-Band EORI

X and P-band images are combined (EORI) to enhance thematic interpretability. Areas of the surface rock just below the tree canopy or exposed rock are blue.

Red = P-band

Green = X-band

Blue = P & X-bands

GeoSAR ADVANTAGES

  • Precision foliage penetrating mapping technology based on dual-frequency interferometric SAR (IfSAR)
  • Ideal for large, difficult areas to map – collects over 280 sq. km per minute
  • Simultaneously collects high accuracy elevation and image data at the top of and beneath foliage
  • Operates day or night through cloud cover and dense vegetation
  • Geo-registered X and P-band data gathered simultaneously
  • Infield DTM and Imaging Processing
